My attempt at free speech
Consider this....

Something is terribly wrong!

I’ve just about decided to quit watching the news or reading the newspaper. Of course this isn’t going to happen but believe me I’ve thought about it simply because every time I decide to check on the daily happenings in our country and around the world, I get upset.

Recently I’ve decided that something is terribly wrong in our country. For example, CNN newsman Lou Dobbs reported on his show the other day that nearly 46 million Americans do not have health insurance because they do not make enough money to pay for it. Yet, we have hundreds of people illegally entering our country everyday and many of them are getting free healthcare and other benefits. In the future, some may be allowed to draw Social Security even though they haven’t worked here long enough to be eligible. Like I said before, “something is terribly wrong.”

Down on the Mexican border, Texas lawmen are afraid to patrol near the Rio Grande because they are “outgunned” by Mexican gang members, drug dealers, human traffickers, and would-be terrorists.

Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzales recently told a state Senate committee, "The weapons we possess are like water guns compared to what they have. They're trying to scare us away from the border." Gonzales said that residents have reported seeing men marching two abreast, carrying backpacks and automatic weapons. He recounted the barrage of gunfire coming at Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies from across the Rio Grande this month. "It's not just illegal immigrants," he said. "Something more frightening is happening."

After reading Sheriff Gonzales’ remarks, it makes me wonder why our government isn’t making an effort to secure our borders and protect American citizens. Yes folks, something is definitely wrong. In my opinion, we should put armed troops on the border right now and put a stop to this nonsense regardless of whom it might offend. Our government is quick to say that other countries, like Israel, have the right to protect their borders. I wonder when the politicians will decide to protect our border and prevent another disaster like 9/11.

Some politicians are indeed a sneaky bunch. For example, after the American people were overwhelmingly in favor of building a fence on the Mexican border, the Senate complied and passed a law authorizing the barrier. And although it was only going to be 370 miles of fence, at least it was a start. But guess what? When it came time to appropriate funding to build the fence, the Senate unanimously voted against spending the money. Every Senator from the border states, including Texas’ John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison, voted against it. It’s no secret why they did this – they are looking at votes – they don’t want to offend the estimated 12 to 40 million illegal immigrants in this country who quite possibly will soon be allowed to vote.

Another thing that upsets me is all the money we send to people around the world; many of them hate us, but they love our money. For example, I read the other day where the United States is going to send 30 million dollars to Lebanon to help them recover from the ongoing war between the terrorist organization Hezbollah and Israel. I wonder who will actually receive this money. Hezbollah is part of the Lebanon government so it’s possible that they might take the money and buy more rockets from Iran to drop on the Israeli people. Hezbollah is the same terrorist group who killed 241 of our Marines in the Beirut barracks bombing back in 1983.

And finally, I think the most outrageous thing that I’ve read recently is about the young high school student in a Las Vegas school district who got in trouble for mentioning God in her commencement speech. One Internet source reported that at a recent graduation ceremony, Clark County School District (CCSD) officials cut the microphone on Foothill High School valedictorian Brittany McComb after she began reading a speech that contained Bible verses and references to God.

The school had shortened the original copy of her speech and stripped it of biblical references and approved an edited version, cutting six mentions of God or Christ and omitting two biblical references. At the graduation exercises, however, the teen commencement speaker felt compelled to deviate from the edited version. "God's the biggest part of my life," she says. "Just like other valedictorians thank their parents, I wanted to thank my Lord and Savior."

As you would expect, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) backed the school district’s decision. I find it absurd that in this country people can burn the American flag and it is called the right of “free speech.” But let a gifted young student decide to publicly thank God for her intellect and she is violating the law. Something is indeed terribly wrong.
