Maybe Mexico has the answers, about immigration

With all the talk going on about illegal aliens from Mexico; it got me to thinking that perhaps we could solve our immigration problems by just treating the illegals in the same manner that Mexico treats all immigrants.

According to a column by Michael Reagan which appeared recently on NewsMax.com, Mexico deals harshly with all immigrants to that country. Reagan gave the following examples regarding Mexico’s immigration laws which are written in that country’s constitution: Pursuant to Article 33, “Foreigners may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country.”

And Article 32 of the Mexican constitution contains this bit of information; “Mexicans shall have priority over foreigners under equality for all classes of concessions and for all employment, positions, or commissions of the Government in which the status of citizenship is not dispensable.”

Persons who are immigrants, foreigners, or even naturalized citizens in Mexico are not allowed to serve as military officers. They cannot be employed on a Mexican-flagged ship or on an airline crew. And as stated previously, an immigrant to Mexico can never become involved in politics. A Mexican congressman or senator must be “a Mexican by birth.” The same goes for cabinet officers or Supreme Court justices.

The Mexican constitution also states, in Article 130, that immigrants (even legal ones) may not become members of the clergy. Also, the Mexican government makes it clear that foreigners will not be landowners. Article 27 states, “Only Mexicans by birth or naturalization and Mexican companies have the right to acquire ownership of lands, waters, and their appurtenances, or to obtain concessions for the exploitation of mines or of waters.”

If this country started using the Mexican constitution to manage immigration, don’t you know there would be an outcry from some folks claiming that the United States was practicing racism?

I will be honest and admit that I have no idea how to solve this problem. But I know one thing for sure; we had better secure our borders and do it quickly – for the safety of all of us. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that our enemies are coming across with all the others and they have made it clear that they plan to kill Americans at every opportunity.

There was one report a while back that Mexican drug lords had obtained IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). These are the same weapons, better known as roadside bombs, that the enemy is using in Iraq to kill our troops. If IEDs are in Mexico, how hard would it be for them to get into this country? Fact is, it isn’t hard for anything to get into this country via the border with Mexico – including “dirty bombs” or nuclear weapons.

Within the last few weeks, we have seen thousands march and demonstrate over the immigration issue – you are allowed to do that in a free country. But a scene during one of those demonstrations made me sick to my stomach.

Students at a public school in California took down the American flag and replaced it with the Mexican flag. Then they turned the American flag upside down and put it back up, below the Mexican flag. It makes me wonder what these kids are being taught. It certainly isn’t patriotism; oh I forgot, it isn’t politically correct for Americans to be proud of their country or worship God.

In my opinion, this incident in California was a sacrilege to the memory of the thousands of Americans, of all ethnic backgrounds, who have died defending this country.

I see all these things that upset me and then I think of the men and women serving in our military – it’s been my privilege to meet and interview some of them. I think about these brave soldiers serving side-by-side and fighting for this great country of ours. They are comrades going into “harm’s way” not looking at the color of one another’s skin but fighting as a skilled team and winning a war. Young Americans with a heritage of every nationality you can think of, but Americans all.

Personally, I absolutely refuse to be “politically correct.” I will continue to worship God in my own way and I will continue to pray for our president and our troops. At every opportunity I will persist in supporting this great country and the way of life of its lawful citizens.

It’s time for that “silent majority” of Americans, of all colors, to stand up and be counted. I feel confident that they will, come Election Day.
