Forget the politically-correct trash...

Celebrate Thanksgiving and ignore the media

I read somewhere the other day that some of the “politically-correct” individuals in this country had already started their annual assault on Christmas and now Thanksgiving is also included in the deal.

You see, we have a minority of people in this country who hate our way of life and those folks seem to get all the attention from the liberal biased mainstream media. While the majority of us like to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas in our traditional ways – just like our parents and grandparents did – we don’t get much press coverage.

And now, we are supposed to feel guilty over celebrating Thanksgiving because several hundred years ago people who came here from Europe mistreated some Indians. Some Native-American groups look upon Thanksgiving as their “national day of mourning.” If indeed that’s true, whatever happened to the old saying of forgive and forget? Why should we put these kinds of thoughts in our children’s minds?

I was always taught that we should express gratitude at Thanksgiving and enjoy being with our loved ones. A great meal and a football game or two are also part of the deal. And personally speaking I hope all Native Americans get to celebrate Thanksgiving the same way, if they are a mind to, but I really don’t plan to burden myself with remorse over something that happened over 300 years ago – something I had nothing whatsoever to do with.

And for some idiotic reason there are people who thrive on the hate-America theory and continue to want all of us to be on some sort of guilt trip. They say we should not celebrate Christmas because it might offend a few in this country. I don’t know about you but I am so fed up with this kind of bull that I am ready to offend just about anyone who suggests we cease celebrating our holidays as we have done for years.

Something that also riles me is how a few businesses like to get onboard with this political-correctness hogwash. There are some retail outlets in this country that have started referring to Christmas trees as “holiday trees” and some stores have removed any reference to Christmas in all of their advertising. The last time I checked, Christians made up 80 percent of the population in this country and they have the power to put a stop to this nonsense. All they have to do is refrain from shopping at those stores and watch how quick they jump back on the Christmas bandwagon.

Most folks that I know simply enjoy the season; being with friends and family while remembering those who can’t be with them. I doubt they think much about what happened between the Pilgrims and Indians all those years ago. They are much more concerned about the well being of their loved ones while being grateful for the good in their lives.

We have to be on our toes now days because there is a concentrated effort underway to destroy all the things that Americans hold dear. I have no idea who is behind all this but it is being done.

You can bet that when it comes to eliminating Christianity from the scene the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) is going to be one of those supporting it.

It is the nature of Americans, however, to defend the things they hold dear so you can bet the traditional observances of Thanksgiving and Christmas will be around for a mighty long time – politically correct or not.
